Chief Scientist Office (CSO): www.sehd.scot.nhs.uk/cso
This website explains the process in which Clinical Trials seek ethical approval.
Medical Research Council: www.ctu.mrc.ac.uk/trialinfo.asp
The Clinical Trials Unit of the Medical Research Council specialises in trials in HIV/AIDS and cancer, but also runs trials in other areas such as arthritis and respiratory diseases.
Database of current trials: www.controlled-trials.com/mrct
The Current Controlled Trials website is published by a medical publishing company, Current Controlled Trials Ltd and lists information about randomised controlled trials across the world. The information is geared more to health professionals than the general public.
Clinical Trials Registry: www.clinicaltrials.gov
ClinicalTrials.gov is a service of the United States National Institutes of Health. It lists information on over 60,000 trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, other federal agencies and private industry and includes trials run around the world.

Cancer-related

Cancerbackup: www.cancerbackup.org.uk/Treatments/Trials/Search
Cancerbackup, now merged with MacMillan Cancer Support is another major UK charity providing reliable information on cancer. The search engine looks at UK trials (usually also listed on CancerHelp UK) but also cancer research trials in Europe.
National Cancer Institute: www.cancer.gov/clinicaltrials
This is the cancer-specific equivalent of ClinicalTrials.gov. Although US-based it lists cancer trials going on around the world.

Other information

INVOLVE: www.invo.org.uk
INVOLVE is a national advisory group that is funded by the National Institute for Health Research. It was established to promote and support active public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research in order to improve the way that research is prioritised, commissioned, undertaken, communicated and used.

Clinical trials for medicinal products:
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), which is an executive agency of the Department of Health, is the statutory body in the UK responsible for ensuring that medicines and medical devices work and are acceptably safe.
